Although the Arizona Cardinals squeaked out a victory against the New York Giants without quarterback Carson Palmer, they know they’ll be pushing their luck the longer the veteran remains sidelined.

More from Arizona Cardinals

Dealing with a shoulder issue, Palmer appeared ready to start Sunday’s tilt though was declared inactive hours before kick. That lead to backup Drew Stanton taking the field where he helped the Arizona Cardinals improve to 2-0.

Stanton wasn’t bad by any stretch, but can he replace Carson Palmer? Such remains to be seen, though if Palmer doesn’t improve soon it appears as if Stanton may get the opportunity as the veteran says he’s not sure when he’ll be back on the field.

“They said my shoulder was stretched out and I landed on the nerve, shut the nerve down,” Palmer said. “It’s just one of those things you’ve just go to wait and hope it wakes up. There’s no, ‘it needs 48 hours. It needs six days, it needs 12 days. You just don’t know.”

Nerve issues are obviously very difficult to deal with and recovery time is completely sporadic, so it’s conceivable that Carson Palmer could be ready as soon as this weekend or he may need additional time off.

Of course, the injury comes at a terrible time for the Arizona Cardinals as they will pit their undefeated record against the San Francisco 49ers, fresh off a frustrating loss to the Chicago Bears on Sunday night.

The hope is that Carson Palmer will be ready for Week 3 though if he’s not, Drew Stanton appears ready to put down the clipboard yet again.
