Kelly was 13-of-21 with 193 yards and three touchdowns and added 70 yards on six carries, including a 50-yard touchdown in the third quarter of Saturday’s win over the Colorado Buffaloes. But then Kelly scrambled on third-and-seven with a little more than two minutes remaining in the quarter and after he was tackled short of the first down went to the locker room to evaluate the injury.

He emerged with the right foot in a large protective boot and his body language and somber look on his face resulted in a very emotional Kelly. Head coach Todd Graham did not address the injury directly after the game but mentioned he was concerned on Sunday morning.

That concern has led to confirmation that he will the pivotal Pac-12 game but he could return in time for the Oct. 4 game against the USC Trojans.

With Kelly sidelined, junior quarterback Mike Bercovici will make the first start of his career in Kelly’s place. He had played in reserve duty this season and led the Sun Devils to three touchdown drives on his 11 drives this season.

Kelly threw for 2,635 yards and 28 touchdowns last year as he was named to the Pac-12 second team after leading the team to the Pac-12 Championship Game.
