Jamaal Charles injury update: Chiefs RB has high ankle sprain
The MRI came back clean for Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles, but that doesn’t mean one of the NFL’s best running back’s is in the clear after leaving the team’s Week 2 loss to the Denver Broncos is in the clear.

Charles suffered a high ankle sprain which typically takes multiple weeks to heal and return to action, but head coach Andy Reid termed the high ankle sprain as not being that severe.
“It doesn’t look to be a real severe one, but it does have the component of a high ankle sprain,” Reid said at Monday’s press conference.
Charles was limited to only two carries for four yards on the afternoon against their AFC West rivals and one catch for eight yards as Kansas City came up two yards shy of forcing overtime against the defending AFC champions.
With Charles out of the game, Knile Davis rushed for 79 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries and added six receptions for 26 yards. The former Arkansas Razorbacks running back will be relied upon heavily with Charles unlikely to play in this week’s game against the Miami Dolphins and perhaps even longer if this injury to Charles lingers for a few weeks.
Reid is optimistic though less than 24 hours after the injury so perhaps there is hope that Charles will be able to return to the lineup, at least on a platoon basis for the game vs. the New England Patriots on Monday Night Football in two weeks. That extra day could be the difference for him to get back out there and help the Chiefs who are 0-2 on the season.
