When Caron Butler signed with the Detroit Pistons this offseason, he wasn’t shy about the reasoning behind it. He wanted playing time and he wanted money.

Sure, he could have signed elsewhere and had a better opportunity to win an NBA championship, but Butler believes he still has plenty of game left in his tank and wasn’t about to sit on the end of a bench letting his skills deteriorate.

Given that, when the Detroit Pistons gave him a call, Caron Butler was all ears. Now the forward says he’s ready to lead the franchise moving forward.

“I played with Chauncey in Los Angeles and I saw his will and desire,” Butler said. “Seeing the opportunity he had here to restore the winning tradition and unfortunately he wasn’t able to be out there, I know that was frustrating to him. But to come in and be able to fill that role is something I accept with open arms. That’s the challenge you want. You want to be able to help these guys get over the hump and be the voice in the locker room and a guy people look up to.”

With a very young roster, Caron Butler immediately becomes the veteran presence on the Detroit Pistons roster and should make an impact on both the court and in the locker room.
