Nate Duncan of Basketball believes trading Westbrook for Rondo would be a “moronic trade” for the Thunder.
"Yes it would be possible. It would make OKC a mid-range playoff seed in the West and likely make Boston a low playoff seed in the East. This would be an absolutely moronic trade for OKC though. Rondo has never had anywhere close to as good a season as Westbrook, will be 29 next summer when his contract expires, and will have to be overpaid to retain him. I wouldn’t do this if I were OKC even if Boston threw in literally every asset they have."
Westbrook is a big-time scorer and although Rondo is a fantastic play-maker, the Thunder can’t afford to lose a scorer like that.
Last season, Rondo averaged 11.7 points, 9.8 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 40.3% from the field, 28.9% from beyond the arc and 62.7% from the free throw line. Rondo was originally selected by the Celtics with the 21st-overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft. In his eight-year career, he has averaged 11.1 points, 8.4 assists, 4.6 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game while shooting 47.5% from the floor, 25.2% from three and 62.1% from the free throw line. Last season, Westbrook averaged 21.8 points, 6.9 assists, 5.7 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game while shooting 43.7% from the field, 31.8% from beyond the arc and 82.6% from the free throw line. In his six-year NBA career, the fourth-overall pick of the 2008 NBA Draft has put up 20.1 points, 6.9 assists, 4.9 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game while shooting 43.3% from the floor, 30.5% from three and 81.5% from the charity stripe.
