Some would say Daryl Morey had a disappointing offseason, and those who say that would be right. Morey swung for the fences by trying to land a third all star to go along with James Harden and Dwight Howard but ultimately failed. His eyes were set on Carmelo Anthony or Chris Bosh, but instead the Houston Rockets ended up with Trevor Ariza.

Pair that with losing Chandler Parsons to the in-state rival Dallas Mavericks and this has apparently led to some fans questioning if Morey is on the hot seat. However, Morey’s job is safe, according to Alex Kennedy of basketballinsiders.com.

"Coaches are always the first people to be fired, whether it’s fair or not. General managers tend to have a longer leash because sometimes they’re trying to execute a multi-year plan that they’ve spelled out for ownership. Also, past success tends to help GMs. Daryl Morey isn’t on the hot seat because he was just able to land James Harden and Dwight Howard in Houston."

Kennedy had to answer a fairly obvious question during his live chat, because Morey is one of the more highly regarded general managers in the NBA. However he touches on an interesting point. Despite Morey not doing anything to improve the team this offseason, if the Rockets disappoint again this season it could be head coach Kevin McHale’s but in the hot seat.

Teams with high expectations have a lot more to lose, so keep an eye on the Rockets this season, and their front office.
