After hiring Phil Jackson as president, the New York Knicks had a busy offseason. Their first major move was dealing Tyson Chandler and Raymond Felton to the Dallas Mavericks for a package including Jose Calderón.

Chuck Myron of Hoops Rumors believes the Knicks could deal Calderón.

"I think there’s a fair chance the Knicks do look to unload Calderon, as much as I like that guy. I don’t know if Phil Jackson is ready to be patient, even though he has a five-year contract, and if he can go after a couple of big-time free agent next summer, he’ll clear the decks to make it possible. Lin coming home to New York would be quite a story, but I think he’d be an afterthought. He might be available at the minimum next summer, depending on how it goes this season with the Lakers."

Calderón is set to make $7,097,191, $7,402,812 and $7,708,427 over the next three seasons.

He could be a real asset for the Knicks not only in a trade but on the court – he is an upgrade from Felton.

Calderón put up 11.4 points, 4.7 assists and 2.4 rebounds per game while shooting 45.6% from the field, 44.9% from beyond the arc and 82.5% from the free throw line last season. The nine-year pro has played for the Knicks, Mavericks, Toronto Raptors and Detroit Pistons. He’s averaged 10.2 points, 6.8 assists and 2.5 rebounds per game while shooting 47.9% from the floor, 41.1% from three and 87.4% from the free throw line.
