When Jerry Rice speaks, people listen. Will his former team do the same? That remains to be seen, though the legendary wide receiver has made his opinion on domestic violence known.

While those accused of violent acts like Carolina Panthers tackle Greg Hardy, Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson and Arizona Cardinals tailback Jonathan Dwyer have all been taken off the field, Ray McDonald of the San Francisco 49ers has not.
That isn’t something that sits well with the San Francisco 49ers legend who told Sports Illustrated that he would have deactivated Ray McDonald if he were in charge.
“I think I’m just like Steve Young — I would have totally just taken him off the field until it’s resolved,” Jerry Rice told SI.com. “But they have decided to let him play, and it’s just unfortunate. I feel that when you have something that’s weighing you down like that, because it’s a very important topic, and it’s very sensitive, I just feel he should have been taken off the field.”
The San Francisco 49ers front office has stated they plan to let the legal process play out before making a decision regarding McDonald’s playing status, though with mounting pressure will they reverse course? So far they’ve given no indication that they plan to do so though head coach Jim Harbaugh has previously stated domestic violence will not be tolerated.
Ray McDonald is accused of assaulting his pregnant fiancee.
