No, the Rangers weren’t having a very good season but this is a franchise who has been a perennial powerhouse and likely will continue to be such once they return to health. That’s not something a manager, especially one who has been long tenured like Ron Washington walks away from.
So what was the issue? At the time, Ron Washington nor the Texas Rangers were willing to talk though the former manager says his infidelity forced him to walk away.
For what it’s worth, Ron Washington’s wife was in attendance at the press conference and was seemingly supportive of the long time baseball mind.
Understandably, dealing with the issue had become too large for Washington to handle while managing the Rangers which is why he opted to leave the franchise. Now hopeful to repair his relationship with his wife and family, Ron Washington hopes to return to the game in some capacity down the road though didn’t give an indication as to where that might be or in what role.
It is not known if Washington will return to the Texas Rangers.
