Emoji was the only keyboard that offered any sort of “fun” typing on previous iOS devices, however, iOS 8 sets out to change that. As the operating system has gotten an upgrade, developers are now able to create more advanced keyboards, including animated GIF keyboards and gesture based designs. Enter Emojiyo.

A new app, Emojiyo, is designed to use the same style of keyboard as normal, but focuses around finding the right emoji for each situation.
Talking to Mashable, one of Emojiyo’s creators, E.J. Mablekos said “The built-in Apple emoji keyboard is just horrible. You have the situation of this kind of language almost with 850 characters that you navigate by looking through six arbitrary sections and it’s kind of like a game of memory.”
With the typical emoji offering now, users are forced to sort through multiple keyboards or stick with their favorites.
Emojiyo is also much more intuitive than current offerings. By saving combinations of emojis, users are able to create phrases to convey full thoughts.
For those that watched the Apple special event that featured the Apple Watch and iPhone 6, one of the unique features of the watch, was emojis that we designed to be animated. While Emojiyo doesn’t quite take things that far, it is very close.
I’m not a huge fan of texting emojis, but I do think they have their place. The app will no doubt do well on iOS 8 considering the popularity of emojis as a whole. Make sure to check it out and let us know if you like Emojiyo better than your current go to.
