Cooper breaks the record held by Dennis Homan who had 18 with the Tide form 1965-1967. Cooper is playing at another level than any other receiver in the nation and is a legitimate Heisman Trophy contender at a position that has not won the award since Desmond Howard won in 1991.
The record-breaking score came from four yards with Vernon Hargreaves draped all over him and with Jake Coker in relief of Blake Sims who left temporarily with a shoulder injury.
Cooper had 33 receptions for 454 yards and two touchdowns entering Saturday’s game with Florida. The touchdown gave Alabama a 35-21 lead over the Gators in a game that shouldn’t even be this close. Florida has scored all 21 of their points off turnovers from Alabama.
The junior receiver now owns the single-season record with 11 he set as a freshman and the all-time record and is having a season that could see him drafted awful high in the upcoming NFL Draft.
