As we head into week 3 in fantasy football, owners are stating to get an idea of what they have on their teams and who they can count on.  After two games we’re starting to have a sample size to work with as we decide who to start and who to sit.  The sample size is still extremely small, though, so evaluating trends vs. flukes can still be challenging.

Week 3 is still a little too early to give up on struggling stars, but some teams and players are quickly starting to lose owners confidence. If you drafted someone as a starter, you can give them another week or two if you want, but make sure you stay active on the waiver wire to have the right backups to plug in when it’s time to make the move.

As you make your lineup calls, considering week 3 matchups and recent performances can be helpful if you’re trying to choose between two options who are close in ranking.  Matchups should be a part of your decision as the Falcons reminded us Thursday, but don’t go overboard and cripple your own team by overthinking things.

Each week in my start/sit post, I try to find some peripheral players on the edges of the starting lineup and give you one who should get a slight upgrade and one who should get a slight downgrade based on form and matchup.  I’m not saying these players should start on every team or that you should sit them regardless of who you have to put in, but consider alternative lineups and weigh your options carefully.  If you have specific questions you can get answers from @FansidedFantasy on twitter.

Each week I also try to pick a flier at each position who could have a big week despite being fairly lowly ranked heading into the week.  Fliers aren’t meant to be used except in case of emergency, but they should be monitored for future consideration, and they make decent last-minute desperation plays.
