Florida vs Alabama final score: Crimson Tide pull away from Gators, 42-21
By Jack Crosby
The Florida Gators put up a good fight in the first half against the third-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa on Saturday afternoon, however they just didn’t have enough left in the tank to hang in the second half. In the end, Alabama improved to 4-0 on the season with a 42-21 win.

Both wide receiver Amari Cooper and quarterback Blake Sims had fantastic performances, as Alabama’s offense rolled to nearly 700 total yards on the afternoon. Cooper finished up with 10 catches for 201 yards with three touchdowns. A lot of eyes coming into this game were on the battle between he and Florida DB Vernon Hargreaves, a battle which Cooper dominated on this day.
As for Sims, who left the game in the second half with an apparent back injury, he showed everyone once again why he is indeed the definitive starting quarterback of this team. In his fourth start, Sims finished up with 445 yards on 23-of-33 passing with four touchdowns and one interception.
With the game already in hand in the fourth quarter, backup Jacob Coker took over under center, so as not to put Sims in harm’s way any further.
But again, this was not all easy for the Tide. In the first half, the Gators held a 14-7 lead when Keanu Neal returned a DeAndrew White fumble 49 yards for a score. Even at the 12-minute mark in the third quarter, the game was tied at 21 after a 14-yard touchdown run from Jeff Driskel. However, the Tide would go on to pull away from there, thanks in large part to the efforts of Cooper.
With the win, the Tide now move to 4-0 on the season and will take on Ole Miss on Oct. 4. Meanwhile, the Gators drop to 2-1 on the year and will take on Tennessee on the fourth of October as well.
