The New England Patriots are playing the Oakland Raiders this weekend, and the match up is famous because of the famous “Tuck Rule Game.” It was the 2001 AFC divisional playoff game when Raiders’ cornerback Charles Woodson sacked Patriots’ quarterback Tom Brady causing him to fumble.

The ball was recovered by Raiders’ linebacker Greg Biekert and looked to have sealed the win for the Raiders. After reviewing the play, the referees determined that Brady’s arm was moving forward and it was an incomplete pass and not a fumble.

The Patriots went on to kick a field goal to tie the game and then kicked a field goal in overtime to win the game. It went on to be called the “Tuck Rule Game” afterwards and this was the rule in question:

"NFL Rule 3, Section 22, Article 2, Note 2. When [an offensive] player is holding the ball to pass it forward, any intentional forward movement of his arm starts a forward pass, even if the player loses possession of the ball as he is attempting to tuck it back toward his body. Also, if the player has tucked the ball into his body and then loses possession, it is a fumble"

So ahead of their match up this weekend Tom Brady is bringing up old memories and doing a little bit of trolling in the process.

Brady wrote: “Tomorrow is my 6th time playing the Raiders. What’s your favorite Patriots vs Raiders memory? I know mine…”
