Any quarterback, no matter how talented, always has a player or two that they deem a security blanket. For Tom Brady of the New England Patriots, that’s wide receiver Julian Edelman and tight end Rob Gronkowski.

More from New England Patriots

Both Edelman and Gronkowski have a history with Tom Brady and know what the quarterback likes. That’s still a learning process for the vast majority of the New England Patriots’ wide receivers, who appear to be a bit frustrated that they’re not getting passes thrown their way despite being open.

“Yeah I think I’ve been getting open,” said Brandon LaFell, who doesn’t have a catch this season on six targets. “At the same time when I’m getting open, other guys like Jules and Gronk, they’ve been open too so you can’t complain when you not getting the ball when other guys are open and getting the ball.”

It’s clear that LaFell wants the ball more but understandably reverted back to ‘team player’ mode despite hinting that the ball needs to come his way more often.

He wasn’t the only New England Patriots wide receiver to suggest he needs more catches.

“I feel like I was doing my job,” Aaron Dobson said. “I feel like I was getting open. The ball was just happening to go to another person. I just gotta keep doing what I’m doing and getting open.”

Fact of the matter is, both Dobson and LaFell are the Tito Jackson to Brady’s favorite targets. They simply need to be ready when the ball comes their way because there will be times with both Edelman and Gronkowski aren’t in position for a catch.

If you’re going to talk a big game, you have to back it up.
