Tom Coughlin continues to get soft in his old age, apparently.

The New York Giants’ old-school head coach learned a new trick this week, allowing the players to play music while on the practice field.

The New York Daily News reported that Coughlin, 68, made the change after discussions with the team’s Leadership Council, a group of players Coughlin selects to help stay connected to the mood of the locker room.

So on Friday, the Giants were practicing to the mellow strains of “Hypnotize” by Biggie Smalls and “Danger” by Mystikal.

Coughlin joked with reporters that the music came from his personal collection.

"“That’s what they wanted me to tell you. That they took the music off of my … I don’t even know what they’re talking about.”"

A team spokesman helped Coughlin out by saying “iPod.”

"“What’s a iPod?” the coach asked."

Coughlin has led the Giants to two Super Bowl titles since 2007 after famously loosening up his coaching style as the insistence of some of the veteran players on the 2007 team, including Hall of Famer Michael Strahan.

The 0-2 Giants held a players’ only meeting called by safety Antrel Rolle, but Coughlin said this year’s rough start has nothing to do with the 2013 season, during which the Giants lost their first six games.

"“I don’t want to talk about last year,” Coughlin said. “I do not want to talk about last year.”"
