Bowling Green punted more times (twice) in the first two and a half minutes against the 19th ranked Wisconsin Badgers than they did their entire game against Indiana last week.  That was just the beginning of the issues for the short-handed Falcons today.

The Badgers ran for a school record 644 rushing yards en route to a 68-17 victory. Three runners, Gordon, McEvoy, and Corey Clement, all eclipsed the century mark. A third, Dare Ogunbowale, finished just shy with 94 rushing yards.

It didn’t start off so well for the Badgers. Melvin Gordon fumbled for the first time in his collegiate career on his 322nd carry early in the first quarter. On the next play, Fred Coppet ran 35 yards for a touchdown that tied the game at 7.

Two Bowling Green turnovers early in the second quarter turned the tide of the game. That and their inability to stop Melvin Gordon and the Wisconsin rushing attack. Gordon ran for 179 yards on just 11 carries in the first half. Four of those ended just like this one: in a touchdown.

After the fumble, Gordon rebounded to have a very good game. He ended up with a career high 253 yards on just 13 carries. Five of those carries went for touchdowns. I think you can forgive him for that fumble.

Quarterback Tanner McEvoy, and converted safety, also got in on the act in the running game. McEvoy ran for more yards (158) than he threw for (112).

When it was all said and done, the Badgers ended up tying a school record with eight rushing touchdowns.

The Badgers will host South Florida next Saturday at Camp Randall for a noon kickoff looking for another big win.
