It’s been a long week for Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston. Not only was he suspended for tonight’s game against Clemson, but his NFL draft stock has plummeted according to several scouts.

One scout in particular revealed to Mike Freeman of Bleacher Report that, to him, Winston has gone from a top three draft selection to a late second rounder.
"“What concerns me about Winston,” one NFC scout said, “is there’s no learning curve. That’s a scary thing for a quarterback who is supposed to be a leader. To me, he’s gone from a top-three pick to a late second-rounder.”"
If Winston’s draft stock does drop, he won’t be the first college player whose stock takes a hit because of character issues and surely won’t be the last. We saw it a bit with last years college phenomenon in Johnny Manziel who was projected a top-10 pick but slipped to the last second half.
Of course, talent could override any true character issues if said talent is seen as franchise-changing. And that’s an area Winston isn’t lacking in. To some, Winston will be the top quarterback of the 2015 NFL Draft — to others Marcus Mariota would get the pick. There are gripes about Winston’s style of play, but there’s no doubting the talent is there.
The college football season is far from over so we won’t truly know how much Winston’s character affects his stock until the draft arrives, but until then, all eyes will be on the FSU quarterback to see how he mentally carries himself from here on out.
