Boston Celtics’ point guard Rajon Rondo reportedly wants out of Boston (although his camp has denied it) but the Celtics don’t appear to be in any rush to deal him.

According to Adam Kaufman of The Boston Globe, Celtics’ owner Wyc Grousbeck “absolutely” wants to keep Rondo long-term.

"Grousbeck was asked by anchor Dan Roche about the captain’s future, and the owner said he’d “absolutely” like Rondo to remain for the long-term.Pressed as to why, “It’s intangible,” Grousbeck said of the man he called a great Celtic. “You just watch him. He played through sort of a broken elbow, a ripped knee. He’s a gamer, he’s a competitor, and he’s got world-class talent.”"

A Rondo trade would make sense, provide the Celtics can get a solid return. Rondo appears ready for a change of scenery and could help a team close to being a contender (the Houston Rockets, perhaps?). Plus, the Celtics look like they will be better served continuing to add talent to their young core.

Rondo averaged 11.7 points, 9.8 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 40.3% from the field, 28.9% from beyond the arc and 62.7% from the free throw line last season in his return from an ACL injury. Rondo was originally selected by the Celtics with the 21st-overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft. In his eight-year career, he has averaged 11.1 points, 8.4 assists, 4.6 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game while shooting 47.5% from the floor, 25.2% from three and 62.1% from the free throw line.
