Felix Hernandez gets rocked in Toronto
By Hayden Kane
The Seattle Mariners are getting blown out by the Toronto Blue Jays for the second night in a row. For a team that was already on the verge of a collapse in the American League Wild Card race, this might be the last gasp for the Mariners.

What makes this 10-2 deficit especially devastating is the fact that the Mariners had Felix Hernandez on the mound tonight. Finally, they were able to turn to their ace, their Cy Young award winner, to get them out of this rut and back on track for their final stretch of games. That was the hope, at least, but clearly that is not how things worked out.
In a manner illustrative of his team’s collapse, Hernandez simply came undone in this game. He failed to make it out of the 5th inning, allowing 8 earned runs on 7 hits and 3 walks. He threw 98 pitches in 4.2 innings of ugly work.
King Felix’s stuff just wasn’t sharp. Worse yet, it looked like the moment got away from him. Hernandez finally had the chance to toe the rubber in a meaningful September game for the Mariners; he came unraveled and turned in one of his worst starts in recent memory.
This baseball, man, it’s a cruel game. A cruel game indeed.
The Mariners aren’t done just yet, but they will need a lot of help and a losing streak from one of the teams in front of them if they are going to have a chance to reach the postseason. Realistically speaking, if this score holds and Seattle suffers this demoralizing loss at the hands of the Blue Jays, they are done.
