As they announced their contract extension with general manager Sandy Alderson on Tuesday, the New York Mets also made it official that manager Terry Collins will be back in that same role for the 2015 season.

From the team’s official Twitter account:

There was a growing sense that Collins would be back, but given the relatively disappointing record for the Mets once again this season, it was no sure thing. It seemed that the rumors went through peaks and valleys as far as Collins’ job status was concerned over the course of the 2014 season.

Collins has been the manager of the Mets since 2011. From 2011 to 2013, the Mets won 77, 74, and 74 games, respectively. Their record currently sits at 76-80 as 2014 winds down. It is likely that he will end yet another season at the helm with fewer than 80 wins.

The Mets believe that the needle is pointing up for their organization. Even with underwhelming win-loss records from Collins, they seem to believe he is the guy to lead a team that has some promise. That said, one imagines that the leash will be short for Collins if things get off to a bad start next season.
