The Cleveland Cavaliers have questions to answer before the season starts and chief among those questions is who will provide the team with center depth that it desperately needs?

Cleveland has ways of filling that need but there’s an unconventional quick-fix that seems to be catching on with those around the Cavaliers.

According to Jason Lloyd of the Akron Beacon-Journal, forward Tristan Thompson could find a home in the Cavs lineup by starting at center.

"Don’t rule out the possibility of Tristan Thompson starting at center. While it has been widely assumed Anderson Varejao would start in the middle, a theory has been floated within the organization recently that by starting Thompson, coach David Blatt could better limit Varejao’s minutes and help protect him from injury. There is plenty of time to make that final decision, but it’s worth noting the idea has at least been discussed."

This is an interesting notion as it’s not a move that would give the Cavs the rim protector they need, but it would perhaps be a way to limit Varejao and get Thompson into the rotation. At the very least, Thompson would ass depth at center, which is what the Cavs need, but starting him won’t negate the fact that a rim protector will be needed at some point this season.
