Back in January, 4-Star cornerback Tyrek Cole committed to the Florida State Seminoles.

Fairly shortly after the commitment, Cole’s pledge seemed shaky and there were rumors the two were going to mutually decide to go their separate ways. Many websites that specialize in recruiting have not considered Cole a commitment for some time and on Monday afternoon, he finally officially decommitted from Florida State, announcing that he would make his decision late in the evening.

Cole was set to commit to either the Miami Hurricanes or West Virginia Mountaineers and on Monday night, he chose the Mountaineers.

Cole, who is from Hollywood Florida and attends Miramar High School, continues the pipeline from Miramar to West Virginia that includes current New York Jets’ quarterback Geno Smith and St. Louis Rams’ wide receiver Stedman Bailey. Four of of Cole’s current teammates – 4-Star wide receiver Jovon Durante, 4-Star safety Kendall McFadden, 3-Star running back Alex Anderson and 3-Star wide receiver Khalil Lewis – are also committed to West Virginia.

The 5’11.5, 170-pound Cole is ranked as the country’s seventh-best cornerback prospect, the 16th-best overall prospect in the state of Florida and the 88th-best overall prospect in the class of 2015 according to 24/7 Sports’ composite rankings. Cole has since been suspended indefinitely from his team.
