Detroit Pistons sign Hasheem Thabeet
By Josh Hill
The Detroit Pistons are starting to put together a team that may very well compete in the Eastern Conference this year but there still needs to be some work done to make sure the wheels don’t fall off too early.

After adding pieces like D.J. Augustin in the offseason and retaining Greg Monroe and Josh Smith, the Pistons are gearing up for a rebound campaign. Stan Van Gundy coming aboard helps too, as he has an eye for defensive talent — which is why Hasheem Thabeet is now in the fold for Detroit.
According to Marc Stein from ESPN, Thabeet was added to the Pistons roster for training camp and is going to get a shot at making the team.
Thabeet has freakish height, but he hasn’t been able to make it translate well in the NBA yet. He’s had moments, but overall he’s a guy who was traded for spare parts and the immediately waived this offseason.
That’s not to say he’s not valuable, but Thabeet has work to do before he is even promised a roster spot. He can help the Pistons with depth though, so look for him to make the most of this opportunity if for nothing else than to show teams that he’s worth a bench spot this season.
