The Golden State Warriors know they have a bright future ahead of them but it’s looking like the team will need to get it’s duck in a row before a serious run at an NBA title is to be expected.

Klay Thompson was the subject of endless trade rumors this summer thanks to Kevin Love, but the Dubs held firm and refused to even consider the idea of trading him away.

According to Diamond Leung of the San Jose Mercury News, Warriors general manager Bob Meyers isn’t backing off his love for Klay Thompson and has publically stated he wants to keep him on the team for a long time.

"“We value him in the highest way, and we want to keep him on this team for a long time,” Myers said Tuesday."

Meyers went on to say that he doesn’t think that Thompson will be distracted by his contract situation this season.

"“He’s just laser-focused,” Myers said. “When you watch him play defense, when you watch him shoot, I’m not sure much knocks him off his center, and that’s a tribute to his intensity and competitiveness. Certain people are built that way where you just point them in the direction, and they go. So I don’t particularly worry about his mind-set approaching the season.”"

Keeping Thompson seems to be the wise thing to do in this situation but what the Dubs should pay him is where the two sides might clash. It’s not as though Thompson wouldn’t be worth every penny of his new deal, but the team needs to try and find a way to fit him under the tax and still be able to field a competitive team.

That’s the challenge responsible NBA teams face.
