Hope Solo speaks out about domestic violence charges on Facebook

Hope Solo has had an eventful life recently. The U.S. women’s soccer national team goaltender took to Facebook late Tuesday night to address two noteworthy events: the leaking of nude photos of her and her pending charges for domestic violence.

Solo was arrested and charged with domestic violence earlier this summer after allegedly striking her sister and nephew during an incident. That was not her first run-in with domestic disputes, as she previously had an incident with her then-fiance, former Seattle Seahawks’ tight end Jeremy Stephens, back in 2010.

Always a polarizing figure to begin with, Solo took to her Facebook account to issue the following message about the most recent incident.

It feels intentional from Solo’s perspective to talk about the leaked photos first, with them being such a salacious topic these days, and then dropping a note in the second half of her message that’s like, “Oh by the way, about those domestic violence charges…”

The U.S. women’s national team has made the division to continue playing Solo in exhibition matches while her charges are pending. That decision has drawn some fire, but the team says it stands by the decision and will continue playing her until the legal matters are resolved. Solo’s trial for the domestic abuse charges is scheduled for November.
