Minnesota Twins Trevor Plouffe out with broken arm
By Ed Carroll
The Minnesota Twins will finish out the final week of the MLB season without third baseman Trevor Plouffe, who left Wednesday’s game after fracturing his forearm:
The Twins announced the diagnosis approximately a half-hour later, that Plouffe will miss what’s left of the season.

It sounds like the Twins expect Plouffe to be ready for spring training next March, which would be good news, but it’s hard not to look at this as a bitter end to a really solid season for Plouffe. Plouffe was a first-round draft pick in 2004 (20th overall), but became little more than utility fodder for a couple of years, bouncing between Minnesota and Triple-A.
Plouffe got the chance to play everyday in 2013, but had a rough overall year. It’s been a different story in 2014 for the 28-year old third baseman, as he’s been solid both offensively and defensively at the hot corner for Minnesota, and finishes the year with a nice 3.5 fWAR, and a .330 weighted on base average (wOBA).
For the year, Plouffe hit 14 home runs, and slashed .258/.326/.423 in 579 plate appearances. The Twins still control his rights, and he will be in his second year of arbitration, as he was a Super 2-type arbitration eligible entering 2014, when he made $2.35 million, and it’s possible Minnesota looks to lock in his last two arbitration years this offseason.
