Round 2 of the Shenzhen Open 250 tournament in Beijing, China got underway on Wednesday, with all four games including a seeded player. It was the opening game of the Asia swing for third seed Richard Gasquet and fourth seed Tommy Robredo, who will have both been desperate to open with a win.
Also in action was consistent performer and eights seed Andres Seppi, who faced fellow Italian Simone Bolleli, who is just starting to rediscover his singles game. Finally Canadian Varek Pospisil, looking to make steps towards the Top 20, faced former Top 20 regular Juan Monaco. See the results and how events unfolded below:

Varek Pospisil was the second seed to exit the tournament in Shenzhen, following Gilles Simon in losing in the early rounds. He relinquished the first set the the Argentine Juan Monaco, before restoring parity. However, he couldn’t use the momentum to his advantage. There were routine wins for Richard Gasquet and Andreas Seppi who both progress to the Quarter Finals with ambitions of a much deeper run in Shenzhen.

The remaining seeds start their journey is Asia, with headline players David Ferrer and Andy Murray opening their Shenzhen campaigns. Both received byes in the first round and will be itching to get going in the tournament. Murray in particular will be happy to be back on the tennis court after the controversy surrounding comments he made last week, which he now regrets.
Ferrer faces a tricky (excuse the pun) first game against Serb Victor Troicki. He has come all the way through qualifying, which always makes a player dangerous, but Ferrer should come through.
