The Tennessee Titans were without starting quarterback Jake Locker and leading receiver Delanie Walker at practice Wednesday.

Locker injured his wrist during Sunday’s loss at Tennessee and Walker hurt his shoulder in the same game.

Titans coach Ken Whisenhunt told reporters (per the team’s official website) Locker is getting better, but it’s too early to make a determination on his status for their matchup this week with the Indianapolis Colts.

"“I can only go on what the trainer tells, because we’ve been working on game planning and then preparing for practice today.“We’ve talked and we knew it’s going to be a process. Nothing’s changed about that. He’s getting better. It’s just a question of how quickly that progresses.”"

Locker has completed 56.4 percent of his passes for 685 yards with three touchdowns and four interceptions this season. Tennessee has lost two straight after winning its opener at Kansas City.

If Locker can’t go, backup Charlie Whitehurst would make his first start since Week 7 of the 2011 season, when he was with the Seattle Seahawks.

In his sixth season, Whitehurst is 1-3 in four career starts, all with the Seahawks in 2010-11. He signed with Tennessee as a free agent this spring after two seasons with the San Diego Chargers, during which he never attempted a pass.

In 13 career appearances with the Chargers and Seattle, Whitehurst has completed 54.2 percent of his passes for 805 yards and three touchdowns, with four picks.

Walker, meanwhile, leads the Titans in targets (25) and receptions (17) through three games. He’s got 233 receiving yards and two touchdown catches.

Chase Coffman is Walker’s backup in Tennessee’s two tight-end set, with Craig Stevens starting on the other side. Coffman was signed as a free agent last month.

In four seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals and Atlanta Falcons, he has four catches for 41 yards.
