Giants vs Redskins final score: Kirk Cousins bombs; Giants rout Washington, 45-14

The New York Giants and Washington Redskins went head-to-head on Thursday night, in what turned out to be an embarrassing night for Kirk Cousins and the home team.

More from New York Giants

Washington was in trouble from the beginning thanks to three first-half touchdowns from tight end Larry Donnell, but they had an opportunity to come out of the half strong and put up a fight in the final two quarters of the game.

They didn’t.

Instead, Kirk Cousins answered Donnell’s three-touchdown first-half performance with a three interception third quarter.

Before we knew it, the score was 38-14 for the Giants and Cousins tossed his fourth interception of the game.

Things really could not have gone any worse for Cousins and the Redskins. Add in a fumble, and Cousins had a five turnover day.

At a time when many people were wondering what the Redskins would do when Robert Griffin III got healthy enough to return, the narrative has now switched to ā€œwhen can RG3 come back because Kirk Cousins is awful.ā€

On the flip side of things, Eli Manning had an impressive game — 300 yards passing and four touchdowns — as the Giants now advance to 2-2 after starting the year off with two difficult losses. Washington, meanwhile, falls to 1-3 and has to be wondering where it all went wrong.

WhatĀ We Learned

Kirk Cousins is not the answer.Ā

For the second straight season, Kirk Cousins showed promise when he was called into the game on short notice.

Unfortunately, Cousins has also progressively gotten worse as the weeks went own — just like a year ago. This is a frightening trend for the Redskins, especially with how bad Cousins performed on Thursday night.

At a time when it looked like a quarterback controversy could be brewing in the nation’s capital, Cousins threw that conversation to the wayside, along with the Redskins chances of winning the game.

The NFC East is Better than We Thought

With the undefeated Philadelphia Eagles, flashes of brilliance from the Dallas Cowboys and the surging New York Giants, the NFC East could prove to be much more difficult than anyone could have imagined.

Just two weeks ago, the NFC East was one of the laughing stocks of the league with the Eagles looking like the only legitimate team in the division, but times have changed and we could see an intriguing Wild Card race in the NFC with multiple representatives from the NFC East.

Of course, there is a lot of football left to be played.
