It appears as if Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin realizes he handled the Ryan Tannehill situation poorly or at least wants everything swept under the rug.

Since Monday, Philbin refused commitment to Tannehill as the Miami Dolphins starting quarterback and continually teased that Matt Moore could be given the job. Meanwhile, Moore never saw a rep with the first team in practice eventually leading to Ryan Tannehill calling his coach out, suggesting his ploy was a distraction in the locker room.
Joe Philbin apologized to the Miami Dolphins for his actions on Thursday.
“All I’ll say is one of the functions of the head coach is to create an atmosphere free from distractions. To the degree that I contributed to any of those distractions, intended or not doesn’t really matter. That falls on me. It’s my responsibility and certainly I expect that responsibility as a head coach. That’s all I have to say on that.”
It seems likely that Philbin was simply attempting to light a fire under his struggling quarterback though things didn’t go as planned. Of course, Joe Philbin’s comments did draw the ire of Ryan Tannehill so we may need to wait until Sunday afternoon to see if Philbin’s comments were effective despite the odd circumstances.
