Davis Webb completed 35-of-54 passes for 374 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions but left the game with a shoulder injury.

Although there were five turnovers in the game, there wasn’t a whole lot of defense – the two squads combined for 1,040 yards of offense.

The Red Raiders couldn’t have asked for a better start. They drove 83 yards on 10 plays capped by a 23-yard touchdown pass from Webb to Reginald Davis. On their first possession, Garman drove the Cowboys to the Red Raiders’ 40-yard line but his errant pass was picked off J.J. Gaines.

After the teams each made two stops, it took the Cowboys less than a minute to score. On the second play of the drive, Garman found Marcell Ateman for a 35-yard gain. Two plays later, he found James Washington for a 33-yard touchdown.

The Red Raiders would answer just two drives later. After forcing a three-and-out, the Red Raiders took over on their own 48-yard line. On eighth play of the drive, Webb found Bradley Marquez for an 18-yard touchdown to regain the lead, making it 14-7 Red Raiders.

Midway through the second quarters, things took a turn for the worst for the Red Raiders. They botched a punt and wound up throwing an incompletion on fourth down, setting the Cowboys up at their own 39-yard line. In just four plays, a one-yard Desmond Roland run tied the game at 14. On the ensuing drive, Kevin Peterson picked off Webb’s pass, giving the Cowboys the ball at the Red Raiders’ 39. One play later, Garman found James Washington for a 39-yard touchdown, making it 21-14. The Cowboys were prepared to extend the lead after the Cowboys drove from their own 19 to Red Raiders’ eight, but Garman’s pass was intercepted by Jah’Shawn Johnson.

The Cowboys were able to push the lead to 28-14 early in the second half when they drove 92 yards on just five plays. Garman hit tight end Blake Jarwin for a 47-yard touchdown. It took the Red Raiders just 1:30 to answer, scoring on a 17-yard pass from Webb to Justin Stockton. It took just four plays for Garman to find Tyreek Hill on a 50-yard touchdown to push the lead to 35-21. Webb found Davis for a 22-yard touchdown on the following drive to make it four straight possessions with a touchdown. The touchdown streak ended on the first play of the fourth quarter when Ben Grogan connected on a 42-yard field goal.

On the following possession, Webb injured his shoulder and was helped to the locker room. Patrick Mahomes entered the game was had a tipped ball intercepted by Seth Jacobs on his first pass, setting the Cowboys up at the Red Raiders’ 15-yard line. The Red Raiders then got the stop they needed but we flagged for roughing the passer. Two plays later, Garman kept it himself and scored from eight yards out.

Mahones found Jakeem Grant for a four-yard touchdown on the next drive to make it 45-35 but it was too little too late.

The Cowboys will return to action next Saturday when they host the Iowa State Cyclones while the Red Raiders will travel to Manhattan, Kansas to take on the Kansas State Wildcats.
