Akron Zips’ chrome helmets pop under the national spotlight
If you haven’t seen the Akron Zips’ helmets for this weekend’s match-up against the Pittsburgh Panthers, put on some shades.
The ‘Roos have played around with some uniform combinations before, but this addition is too hot for uncovered eyes.
What do the kids call that these days? Dope? Sick? Swag, yes, these helmets have swag, baby (my best written Dusty Rhodes impression).

I’ve made it known that I’m not a fan of all-white uniforms on the road (or at home), not at all. They have a surrender feel, don’t you think? The official Akron Zips equipment twitter feed announced white jerseys, pants, socks and cleats.
How to make up for potential all-white terrors? Say it with me: gold…chrome…helmets.
To give you an idea of just how much of a deviation these shimmering bad boys are from the norm, a shot of some previously used domes featuring an equally slick “z”:
As if MACtion wasn’t good enough on its own, now the Panthers of Pittsburgh get to tangle with Zips wearing quite possibly a nomination for helmet of the year.
