The No. 22 Ohio State Buckeyes got big nights from a pair of underclassmen to hold off Cincinnati 50-28 Saturday in front of an Ohio Stadium-record crowd of 108,362.

Ohio State (3-1) burst out to a 23-7 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Bearcats (2-1) clawed back to make it a nine-point game at the half, 30-21, when Chris Moore got open for an 83-yard catch and run on a pass from Gunner Kiel with 26 seconds left.

After Moore hauled in another bomb from Kiel, this one for 78 yards on a blown coverage, the Bearcats were within 33-28 with 9:20 to go in the third quarter.

Ohio State answered with 17 unanswered points to put the game away, capped by a 34-yard touchdown pass from redshirt freshman quarterback J.T. Barrett to senior wide receiver Devin Smith with 10:26 left in the game.

Barrett was 26-for-36 passing for 330 yards and four touchdowns, two to Smith, and also ran for 79 yards on 14 carries.

Sophomore running back Ezekiel Elliott, meanwhile, piled up 182 yards and scored a touchdown on 28 carries as the Buckeyes put 710 yards of offense on the Bearcats.

Kiel, the transfer from Notre Dame, was 21-for-32 for 352 yards and four touchdowns, while Moore had three grabs for 221 yards—a 73.7-yard-per-reception average—and scored twice.

The running game—or lack thereof—was the difference. Ohio State ran for 380 yards on 65 attempts, while Cincinnati mustered just 70 yards on 19 attempts.

The Buckeyes had a 41:56 to 18:04 edge in time of possession and ran 101 offensive plays to just 52 for Cincinnati.
