Les Miles said Brandon Harris had earned himself more playing time after his performance at the end of last week’s loss against the Mississippi State Bulldogs and he delivered as Harris replaced Anthony Jennings against New Mexico State and led the team to a 63-7 win to improve to 4-1.

Harris replaced an ineffective Jennings who tossed two interceptions in his first five attempts and was relegated to the bench where he watched Harris lead LSU to seven touchdowns on his seven drives with Harris accounting for five of the scores himself.

The true freshman from Bossier City, LA. threw for three touchdowns on 11-of-14 passes for 178 yards. Harris also added 36 yards and two touchdowns on five carries and looks to have cemented himself as the starter for LSU for the rest of the season. LSU takes on the Auburn Tigers in a road test for Harris as they look to avoid an 0-2 start to SEC play.

Leonard Fournette led LSU in rushing with 122 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries, Terrence Magee added 62 yards, Kenny Hilliard 53 and Darrel Williams had 38 as LSU ran for 330 yards and five touchdowns on the night.

Malachi Dupre continued to display a rapport with Harris and caught his third touchdown from Harris in the last five quarters and led the team in receiving with 54 yards on three receptions. Fellow true freshman Trey Quinn added three receptions for 46 yards and Travin Dural added his fifth touchdown of the years.

After the defense couldn’t stop Dak Prescott or Josh Robinson in last week’s loss to Mississippi State, John Chavis’ unit fared much better, albeit against an inferior opponent who had four turnovers and outside of a 79-yard touchdown run by Andrew Allen in the second quarter could not move the chains.

New Mexico State only mustered 102 yards passing and with Tre’Davious White and Kendell Beckwith recording interceptions, Beckwith ran his interception back 29 yards for a touchdown at the end of the first quarter to give the Tigers a 14-0 lead and from there the rout was on as LSU led 42-7 at halftime.

LSU looks back on track as they head into the SEC schedule looking to even up their conference record with the defending SEC champions next on the schedule as Auburn looks for revenge after dropping their lone conference game to LSU last year in a rain-soaked Tiger Stadium.
