Milwaukee Brewers to retire number in honor of Bud Selig
At the end of this year Bud Selig will walk away into retirement and baseball fans will welcome on a new commissioner. As that day creeps closer and closer as the baseball season winds down and the postseason is on the horizon, the Milwaukee Brewers are set to honor Selig in a fashion they see fit.
The Brewers announced they will retire the number one in honor of Selig, who bought the team almost 44 years ago, pulled them out of bankruptcy and ultimately moved them to Milwaukee where they have remained since.
No major league franchise has been impacted more by commissioner Selig than the Brewers, and they say this is the first in a series of things they plan to do in order to honor him as he enters retirement.

Bud Selig never wore a Brewer uniform but he may be the most influential person in the history of the franchise. Without his purchase they likely would have gone bankrupt and dissolved away from the league 45 years ago. Selig ran the Brewers franchise until he took office as commissioner back in 1992, and then sold the team in late 2004.
You may remember the Brewers erected a statue in Selig’s honor outside of the stadium during the 2010 season as well.
