While some have gone to black chrome or even gold helmets (looking at you Akron) it looks like Purdue has come up with something a little different to incorporate into their helmets. Yesterday they announced they will wear a helmet that features a collage of all their season ticket holders for 2014 that will make up the Purdue logo on the helmet.
This is a new concept for college football uniforms and I have to say this is a pretty cool idea. Teams have overused the black accents and camo has been used in just about every way and variation possible. Chrome should be reserved strictly for Oregon and now Purdue could carve out a cool niche in the uniform game for themselves.
Could we see this concept even used on actual jerseys in the future? Could a team with even more season ticket holders use the same pattern to outline jersey numbers? It wouldn’t surprise me one single bit to see this be the new thing in college uniform modifications.
