One of the most anticipated cards of 2014 goes down this Saturday, with Demetrious Johnson taking on Chris Cariaso in his fifth flyweight title defence. In the co-main event, former Bellator lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez makes his UFC debut against winner of four straight Donald Cerrone, with the winner potentially getting a shot at the title in their next outing.
The third fight on the billing also has title implications, with Irish sensation Conor McGregor facing his toughest test to date in the form of #5-ranked Dustin Poirier.
In the middleweight division, a tilt between No. 6-ranked Tim Kennedy and No. 10-ranked Yoel Romero features on the main card in a bout that could shape the landscape at 185lbs going forward. Both fighters are unbeaten since joining the UFC, with Kennedy coming off a win over Michael Bisping, and Romero defeating Brad Tavares in his last outing.
Cat Zingano and Dominick Cruz both return from long lay-offs and looking to put their names back in the mix, taking on Amanda Nunes and Takeya Mizugaki respectively.
Check out all five episodes of UFC 178 Embedded, which follows the fighter’s routes to the Octagon, with a bunch of unseen, behind-the-scenes nuggets along the way.
