The Michigan State Spartans handled their business on Saturday. They scored touchdowns on their first four possessions and never looked back, blowing out the Wyoming Cowboys by a final score of 56-14.

There were a number of stars for the Spartans as they cruised to this easy home victory. Running back Jeremy Langford ran for 137 yards on 16 carries and chipped in a touchdown. Nick Hill chipped in another 71 yards on the ground as the Spartans ran down the clock in this one.

Quarterback Connor Cook was afforded the luxury of a part-time role in this game as three Spartans’ quarterbacks saw action; when he was on the field he played well, especially early. Cook threw for 128 yards and two touchdowns and ran it in for another score.

For a moment in the first half it looked the Cowboys might present a more formidable test: running back Shaun Wick had a gorgeous 56-yeard touchdown run in the first quarter and Wyoming’s offense was able to move the ball in spurts. But if there’s one thing the Cowboys couldn’t afford to do in this game, it was turn the ball over. They coughed it up three times and had a field goal blocked, and once the Spartans’ defense clamped down, Wyoming ultimately never stood a chance.

For Michigan State, this is what they needed to do. Not only do they need to run the table this season to have a shot at the first-ever college football playoffs; they need to win impressively. That means blowing out an inferior team like Wyoming when you play them at home, and Mark Dantonio’s squad did just that.
