Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown now has at least five catches and 50 receiving yards in 20 consecutive games, which is good for a new NFL record. Brown eclipsed the mark on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the third quarter.

This breaks the mark of 19 consecutive games that was set by the Jets’ Laveranues Coles in 2002-03. Jacksonville’s Jimmy Smith still holds the NFL record for most consecutive games with five or more receptions with 21. So why does he not have the other record as well? Coles had one game during the streak in which he only had 49 yards receiving.

Brown will go for that mark next weekend when the Steelers take on the Jaguars in Jacksonville. How fitting!

Given how the Jags defense has looked so far this year, it seems likely that Brown’s streak with continue. If so, his chance for the record all to himself would come in week 6 at Cleveland.

Brown was the 195th overall pick of the 2010 draft out of Central Michigan University by the Steelers. He spent most of his rookie season in 2010 returning kicks, but really came into his own in 2011.

His streak began on September 8th of last year against the Tennessee Titans innocently enough. Brown caught five passes in the 16-9 loss. As the season wore on, it became apparent that he was the focal point of the offense. Including today, Brown has eclipsed the 100 yard mark seven times during the streak, and has 13 touchdown receptions over that span.

And he just seems to be getting better. Brown has not failed to hit 90 yards in any of the four games this season!
