The Oakland Raiders will fire head coach Dennis Allen this week. Or will they?

Whether they do or not, an odd issue has arisen with the AP report that got the sports world buzzing in the first place on Sunday night.
It all started when Terry Collins of the Associated Press tweeted a report that Allen has been fired, and that the team will announce the move as early as Tuesday. He issued the report, people started to react and speculate about Oakland’s future, and so on. Standard stuff.
There’s just one problem: that tweet from Collins has been deleted. This is what you will now find if you attempt to follow the link to Collins’ tweet with the original report.

Whoops.
So what is the deal here? First of all, the original tweet can be found in a retweet from Adam Schefter of ESPN:
There it is. RT @APtcollins: My sources tell me that @RAIDERS HC Dennis Allen is fired and an announcement could come as soon as Tuesday.
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) September 29, 2014
It’s not clear at this point what happened or why Collins deleted this tweet. One supposes that he might have just jumped the gun, but his timing is not great.
Is the anonymous source who told the AP Dennis Allen is fired the same one who told them the NFL got the Ray Rice tape?

Not a good time for the AP to be wrong reporting on something NFL

Allen still very well might be fired this week. It just might be a new, separate report, since the AP apparently is not standing by this one from Collins.
