Although the Chicago Bulls are relying on Derrick Rose and Pau Gasol this season that doesn’t mean they won’t count on their rookie additions to help better the team.

More from Chicago Bulls

It’s not often that you see a rookie (let alone two) get significant run with a team expected to battle for an NBA championship, but that’s exactly what’s likely to happen for both Doug McDermott and Nikola Mirotic of the Chicago Bulls.

Both considered to be well seasoned in comparison to most rookies, McDermott and Mirotic are expected to see the floor a significant amount thanks to their impressive shooting skills.

"Both players possess a skill that typically translates in shooting. And with Rose back and the Bulls aiming for a more balanced offensive attack, shooters will be on the court often."

It should be interesting to see how well those shooting skills translate to the NBA level as we’ve seen many talented shooters in college struggle once they deal with NBA defense. Still, while McDermott and Mirotic may not have the highest ceiling they appear ready to contribute right now. That’s what the Chicago Bulls were seeking come the draft and free agency so it appears they got their wish.

Assuming they play up to their expectations, the Chicago Bulls look to be in prime position in the NBA’s Eastern Conference.
