By Hayden Kane
The Carolina Panthers are going to give new meaning to the phrase “next man up” when it comes to their situation at the running back position.

Jonathan Stewart is out (again). Mike Tolbert is out. DeAngelo Williams was able to return to the lineup on Sunday for his team’s week 4 game against the Baltimore Ravens, but now he’s out too.
This time it is an ankle injury that removed Williams. Darrin Reaves, you’re up.
The Panthers are trying to define their offensive philosophy on the fly this season. They are playing with a remade offensive line and a banged up quarterback. As long as Cam Newton is playing with injured ribs, we are unlikely to see him too involved in the running game. Now, with a number of new changes on the offensive line and the fourth string running back in action, we might see Newton chucking the ball around the yard a little bit more.
As for Williams, the Panthers will hope that his injury is nothing serious, while presumably starting to scour the waiver wire for another warm body at running back.
