The Titans played without starting quarterback Jake Locker on the afternoon as Charlie Whitehurst made his first start of the season in relief and he needed receivers Kendall Wright and Justin Hunter to step up and make plays for their backup quarterback.
That didn’t happen as Wright caught five of his eight targets and finished with 55 yards. Hunter was even worse as he caught only one of his five targets for 12 yards.
After the game he didn’t mince his words when he expressed how disappointed he was in his two young receivers.
The truth can hurt and Whisenhunt is not lying when he says the receivers let the team down. He doesn’t need to sugarcoat things or be nice in public. He needs to win games and get his players playing up to their potential.
We shall see if his tough love serves as a wake-up call for the two young and talented receivers moving forward.
