While most young players who are eligible for a contract extension are in talks with their respective team right now, the same can’t be said for Iman Shumpert of the New York Knicks.

More from NBA

For much of the offseason Shumpert was rumored to be in trade talks as the New York Knicks know he’s their most valuable player. Alas, no deal was struck but the fact the team has not been in contact with Iman Shumpert seems to suggest he may not have much of a future in the Big Apple.

"Iman Shumpert is entering the fourth and final year of his rookie contract. He is eligible to sign a rookie scale extension between now and Oct. 31.According to league sources, the Knicks haven’t had any contact with Shumpert or his representatives about a possible extension."

In fairness to the New York Knicks, they still have four weeks to extend a contract extension to Iman Shumpert though you’d think the two would already be in discussions if he was really wanted back.

It’s been previously stated that the New York Knicks could attempt to try Shumpert at the point guard position in the new triangle offense and would like to see how he handles the duties before a potential trade.
