Everett Golson’s good was enough for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish to overcome Golson’s bad and ugly moments Saturday night as the No. 8-ranked Irish improved to 4-0 with a 31-15 win over the Syracuse Orange at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

Golson’s good was great—25 consecutive completions at one point, one off the NCAA record and a new school mark—and four touchdowns on the night.

The bad included two interceptions, including one returned by Durell Eskridge for a touchdown with 5:09 left that kept Syracuse (2-2) in the game.

The ugly was best captured by this botched attempt to clock the ball late in the first half, one of two lost fumbles for Golson on the night.

Notre Dame jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the second quarter on touchdown passes of 23 and 72 yards from Golson to William Fuller, who had six catches for 119 yards on the night.

Terrel Hunt scored on a 7-yard run, but a blocked extra point left it 21-9 just one play into the final period.

After Golson connected with Torii Hunter Jr. on a 13-yard scoring play, Notre Dame led 28-9 with 10:19 left.

Golson was 33-for-40 for 363 yards and four touchdowns. Hunt was 22-for-38 for 294 yards and a pick for the Orange, while Jarrod West caught eight balls for 103 yards for Syracuse.
