Geno Smith was named the Jets’ starter for the 2014 season and given the usual votes of confidence. But given Smith’s unsteady play and the presence of Michael Vick on the bench, it was only a matter of time until people called for Vick to start. Furthermore, it was only a matter of time until the Jets couldn’t help but consider the move.
We are halfway through the morning slate of week 4 games, and already there are grumblings about a switch at quarterback for the Jets. And by grumblings, I mean that head coach Rex Ryan just flat out said that he might bench Smith.

It sounds like Ryan is getting ready to play a risky game in which he plays Vick for part of a game, then says that either guy could start the team’s next game. These are the kinds of quarterback controversies that drag on and on. That is the road down which Ryan potentially starts to venture if he makes this decision against the Lions.
Smith is currently 9-for-20 passing for 103 yards and a touchdown. On the season he has thrown for 713 yards, three touchdowns, and four interceptions.
