Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Josh McCown has torn ligament in thumb
By Ed Carroll
Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Josh McCown has a torn ligament in his thumb, and will try to throw on Monday to see if he is able to pass pain-free. If McCown can’t throw pain-free on Monday, surgery may be required, and McCown would miss at least six weeks recovering. Mike Glennon will start at QB for Tampa Bay in Pittsburgh against the Steelers today.

McCown said he is trying to avoid surgery, and is taking the injury day-by-day, but added that if he felt the injury was pressing he would have already had the surgery. The Bucs are 0-3 this season, and Tampa Bay has failed to score more than 17 points in every game its played, but McCown appears to be taking the long-term view of the season, and is hopeful he can return to the field soon. He has two touchdowns compared to four interceptions on the year, and his longest pass has been for 36 yards. He’s 43-for-68 in completions (63.2 percent), and has fumbled the ball twice. McCown is excited to act as a coach for Glennon and help Tampa Bay in any way he can while he’s hurt.
Glennon already has a touchdown thrown this season, and is 17-for-24 on passing attempts (70.8 percent), but his longest pass this season is only 14 yards. In Glennon’s career, he’s thrown 20 touchdowns and nine interceptions.
