The Seattle Mariners will enter the final day of the regular season one game back of the Oakland Athletics for the second Wild Card spot in the American League. They will have that opportunity thanks to an Oakland loss to the Texas Rangers on Saturday and their own walk-off win at home against the Los Angeles Angels.

Seattle entered Saturday two games back of Oakland. The odds certainly seemed to be stacked against the Mariners making up two games in two days, as they are facing the first-place Angels while the A’s are playing the last-place Rangers. Considering the recent struggles of the Mariners, especially their otherwise stellar pitching staff, that felt like a tall order.
The Mariners got great pitching on Saturday and entered the bottom of the 11th inning with the game tied at 1-1. With runners on first and third, outfielder Austin Jackson whacked a grounder to second base and beat out the attempted double play for the 2-1 walk-off win.
At this point, it is starting to feel a little bit like these two teams are trying to outdo one another as far as second half meltdowns are concerned. The Mariners will try to end with a flourish after struggling for the last week and a half of the regular season.
