The Dallas Cowboys exacted harsh revenge on the New Orleans Saints after having been embarrassed last season by Drew Brees and company. The Cowboys stormed the Saints in a rout that put the game out of reach by halftime as Dallas led 24-0 after two quarters. In 25 years, Cowboys owner and GM Jerry Jones claimed he’d never seen a half as dominant as the first half of this beat down.

“I don’t recall ever seeing a Cowboy team in my 25 years play better, including the effort, including mistake-free execution, than we played in the first half,” Jones said per ESPN.

A multi-faceted effort like this deserves such praise though. Not only did Tony Romo and the Dallas offense steamroll a weak Saints defense, but the Cowboys defense stood strong against Brees and allowed a mere 114 yards of offense in the first half. Even at halftime, a dangerous offense like that of the Saints could give some cause for concern, but nothing went right for the Saints as the Cowboys mostly held them off the board until garbage time.

Now the Cowboys hope to build on a great half and a great game in an effort to prove the doubters wrong. Fans have seen this act from the team before, so many are withholding judgement, but for now Jerry Jones is happy to have a little revenge.

“This is really an important victory to us, because of the respect, because of how we fared against New Orleans over the last eight or nine ballgames,” Jones said. “This is one of those that we kind of needed to knock the ghostly cobwebs out of our minds.”
